Intimate Wellness
What’s the difference between my vagina and my vulva?
The term 'vagina' is often mistakenly used to describe the entire female genital region, but this is inaccurate. In simple terms, the vulva encompasses all the external parts of the female genitalia, including visible components like the clitoris, labia minora and majora, and the urethral opening. On the other hand, the vagina refers to the internal muscular canal connecting the vulva to the cervix, with the only visible part being the vaginal opening. To put it even more plainly: if it's outside, it's your vulva; if it's inside, it's your vagina.
So why do we need to care for it?
Intimate care focuses on the sensitive skin of your vulva, not your vagina. Your vagina is self-cleaning. The vulvar skin is thinner and more sensitive, responding to hormonal changes during different life stages, such as the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, menopause, or hair removal. It can experience various conditions like irritation, dryness, thinning, discolouration, and ingrown hairs. Our intimate wellness range helps combat odours and promotes a resilient vulvar skin, preventing ingrown hairs, maintaining hydration, skin elasticity, and enhancing the overall well-being of this delicate area.
Why is feminine hygiene important?
Proper feminine hygiene helps prevent discomfort, infections, and odour while promoting confidence and self-care. It's essential for overall well-being.
How do I choose the right feminine hygiene products?
Consider your unique needs and preferences. Opt for products that are pH-balanced, hypoallergenic, and free from harsh chemicals, such as Fig Femme's offerings.
Is it necessary to use specific products for feminine hygiene?
While it's not mandatory, using specialised feminine care products can provide added comfort, freshness, and confidence. Our products are designed with this in mind.
Why is this product pH-balanced for my Vulva?
Fig Femme is designed to nourish and support the health of your vulva, not mess with the sciency stuff, which makes us function as healthy women. A normal vaginal pH level sits between 3.8 and 4.5, which is moderately acidic (keeping in mind, what constitutes a “normal” pH level can vary slightly, based on your age and hormone levels). So why does vaginal pH matter when it comes to our product formulations? Well, an acidic vaginal environment is protective. It creates a barrier that prevents unhealthy bacteria and yeast from multiplying too quickly and causing infection. It’s important for us to recognise the incredible work our lady bits do to regulate itself and Fig Femme is designed to support, not hinder, these levels. You might also note that our formulation is specifically designed for the vulva, NOT the vagina. Therefore the pH is a little different as it is designed to sit on the skin’s surface for 15‑20 minutes, unlike a wash that is diluted with water and quickly rinsed away.
I’m into the all-natural look, can I still use Fig?
Of course! Whether you are au naturel, bare, experimenting with hairstyles or even be jewelled – Fig Femme does not discriminate. Just keep in mind results may vary due to different hairstyles and thickness.
Can I use Fig Femme during menopause?
Yes! It may even help with vaginal dryness that comes with menopause.
Isn’t it sufficient to wash my intimate area with water?
Yes, cleaning with water could be sufficient. For a fresh feeling, very often people would like to wash with a pH-balanced product free of any irritating components otherwise the natural flora can be disturbed.
How do I maintain the natural pH of my intimate areas?
Choose pH-balanced and gentle products for cleansing and avoid using harsh or scented soaps that can disrupt your natural pH.
What are common signs of an imbalance in vaginal pH?
Signs may include itching, burning, unusual discharge, and odour. Maintaining a balanced pH can help prevent these issues.
What should I do if I experience discomfort, itching, or unusual discharge?
If you experience persistent discomfort or changes in your intimate areas, it's advisable to consult a healthcare provider for an evaluation.
Is it normal for the vulva and vagina to have a natural scent?
Yes, it's entirely normal for the vulva and vagina to have a mild, natural scent. Avoid using scented products to maintain this natural balance.
